Good old Sunday football… Lazy-day clothes, house full of people, and food (a never-ending buffet of food).  You start with savory appetizers such as potato skins and spinach artichoke dip, and then move on to those hardy meat dishes. However, there’s always that one dish simmering throughout the day, fueling that roaring cheer. Chili! Scooped up with chips, or covered with cheese, the dish will keep you toasty warm and satisfied throughout the game. Want to put a twist on your usual recipe? Well it may be time to try the Woodchuck® Sausage Chili.

The Woodchuck Chili

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground sausage or ground turkey
  • 2 tbsp. of vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of your preferred Woodchuck® Cider – (Grab a ‘Cluster Chuck for options!)
  • ½ cup of H20
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1  – 6 oz. can of tomato paste
  • ½ diced orange pepper
  • ¾ diced onion
  • ½ tsp. minced garlic
  • 1 tbs. chili powder
  • 1 tbs. flour
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. paprika
  • Crushed red pepper to taste

Recipe:

If you have one, grab your crock-pot, but if not, a stove top pot will work just as well!

In a saucepan, cook and sauté the ground turkey with the vegetable oil. Break the turkey into smaller crumbles, and continue until the meat is just barely cooked.

While sautéing the turkey, add the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, tomato paste, water, and your preferred Woodchuck Cider into the crock-pot or stove pot. If you are using a crock-pot, start the setting on high. If you are on the stove top, start the temperature at medium-high.

While the pot starts to heat, dice up the orange pepper and onion. Once prepped, add the orange pepper, onion, and minced garlic to the pot.

Once the turkey is cooked, add to the cooking pot.

In a separate bowl, combine the chili powder, flour, salt, paprika, and sift together. Add the combined spices to the cooking pot.

Stir, and reduce the setting on the crock-pot to low, or the temperature on your stove top to low-medium. Occasionally stirring, let the chili sit for at least 1 ½ hours. (However, the longer it sits, the more flavorful the chili will be!) As the flavors build together, add crushed red pepper to taste, depending on how daring those taste buds are.

Get your cornbread or pumpkin bread ready, that shredded cheddar cheese in an easy-grab bowl, a never-ending bag of chips, and of course, a bottle of Woodchuck to cheer on!
